JUST DANCE

Dancing became a fad with flappers.
They often took part in dance marathons.
Dance marathons were competitions between large groups of people (usually entered as couples)
you and your partner had to continue gettin' your grove on until you were the last couple standing.

Controversy

In previous decades the flapper would have been looked down upon. Some conservatives or the people who did things more "old fashion" weren't exactly a fan of flappers.
They felt they were reckless and couldn't believe that women could drink, smoke, or dress the way they did. Sounds similar to how those same kind of people feel about today's youth.

IMPACT

Independent, strong women were born from the flapper.
Women could express themselves like never before.
Woman, flappers especially, would smoke and drink in public with no remorse.
Something you wouldn't ever see in earlier decades.
Following WWI many woman kept their jobs that they had taken from men during the Great War.
Woman fought for the right to vote and higher wages once they came to the realization that they were doing it on their own.
They realized they do not have to be stay at home moms, they have a choice to go out, find what they love, and make a successful life for themselves without the help of a man.
Without the birth of the Flapper, woman wouldn't have a choice.

Maybe She was Born with It?

Makeup was only worn by prostitutes before the 1920s.
During the 1920s it became a crucial factor in the flapper look.
This video shows you how Clara Bow (a famous flapper actress) did her makeup:

Flat and Striaght

Most flappers' dresses were simply straight and flat. It flattened women's chests and gave them a more youthful, boyish look. Their dresses ended just below the knee so that when they danced, or even walked, their knee would make a quick appearance. Something unheard of before the roaring 20's.

Bob

Before the 1920's woman didn't cut their hair very short at all. When the decade began woman were able to do so much more on their own. They broke away from many traditional things such as longer hair. The Bob was worn curly, wavy, and straight, and was a symbol of independence.

The Flapper: A New Begining

During the time known as the "Roaring 20's" a new way of life for women began.
This fashion label and way of life was known as,
THE FLAPPER.
